PCQHA PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
May
2008
The
Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Association would
like to congratulate all of the youth exhibitors
who have qualified for the 2008 AQHA Youth World
Championship Show. While many of the youth,
their parents and their trainers are probably
trying to recuperate from a hectic spring full
of youth qualifying shows, Jane and Kelly in the
PCQHA office and the PCQHA youth committee are
tackling all of the organizational work that it
takes to get the youth team organized and off to
the World Show. PCQHA is expecting a
significantly larger youth team this year as a
result of changes to the youth qualifying
system. If you have any questions about your
qualifying status or the youth qualifying
system, please contact Cathy Hanson at (949)
347-0276 or the PCQHA office at (530) 823-5991.
The Board of PCQHA wishes everyone good luck and
great success in Oklahoma City in August!
As
part of PCQHA’s efforts to reach out to all
segments of the quarter horse industry in
California, PCQHA is working hard to make the
Summer Celebration Circuit in Watsonville,
California the premier working cow horse,
reining and roping show on the West Coast. To be
held July 2-6 this year, the Summer Celebration
has expanded to five days, with a full slate of
working cow horse, reining, speed event and
halter classes on Wednesday and then two full
split combined shows (4 sets of points) for all
events spread out over Friday through Sunday.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of Ramona Wold,
PCQHA and its generous sponsors, the show will
award buckles to the circuit award winners in
all of the classes in the cattle pen (roping,
working cow horse, reining and speed events).
As an added benefit for the youth, for the first
time the Summer Celebration will be a youth
qualifying show for the 2009 AQHA Youth World
Championship Show. Finally, the PCQHA show
committee is planning a full slate of exhibitor
events outside of the arena, including a hot dog
roast, a barbeque and other fun events. We hope
everyone will join us at the Summer Celebration
to celebrate the July 4th weekend in
cool and breezy Watsonville!
PCQHA would like to welcome its newest board
member-Kate Hyde. As many of you know, Kate and
her husband John are long time owners and
breeders of cutting, roping, working cow horse
and reining horses in California (and the owners
of recent World Champion and Reserve Superhorse
Silver Gun who stands at Ward River Ranch).
Kate will bring the owner and breeder
perspective to the board as well as ably
representing PCQHA members in the central and
northern portion of the state. Feel free to
contact Kate (or any other board member) with
any ideas or questions you have about PCQHA.
PCQHA has recently approved two new Introductory
Shows in California. The first will be on
August 23, 2008 in Templeton, California. The
San Luis Obispo County Quarter Horse Association
is co-sponsoring the Templeton Introductory Show
with PCQHA. The second show will be held in San
Diego County (location uncertain) on October 12,
2008 and will be co-sponsored with CPHA. These
shows will include a full slate of open classes
as well as some AQHA-approved classes and are
designed to introduce new exhibitors to AQHA.
Contact the PCQHA office for more information!
Finally, the AQHA Regional Experience for Region
7 (California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and Hawaii)
is right around the corner. To be held in Reno,
Nevada on June 5-8, 2008, the Regional
Experience will host a wide variety of AQHA
approved classes as well as adult and youth walk
jog classes and AQHA approved exhibitors with
disabilities classes. We urge everyone
interested in the Regional Experience to contact
Laurel Wachtel at (775) 772-4997 or Alice
Gallardo, the show secretary, at (801) 540-4242
or check out the Regional Experience website at
www.AQHARegion7.org, for information about the
classes offered, clinics and other fun
activities occurring at the Regional Experience.
