| PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE FOR APRIL 2009 | The Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Association wants to thank everyone who attended the 2009 Annual Convention in Napa, California in February. We would like to congratulate all of the 2008 Year End All Around Award Winners, as well as the individual class winners for their accomplishments. Over 120 people attended the evening awards banquet and over 60 people attended the PCQHYA awards luncheon. Special thanks to Donna Waddell and her Convention Committee for their hard work. Finally, congratulations to this year’s well-deserved Hall of Fame inductees Lea Kozlowski and Calan Gay.
PCQHA would like to welcome its newest board members, CeCe Campbell and Midge Agsten. As many of you know, CeCe exhibits all around horses and serves on the San Luis Obispo County Quarter Horse Association Board of Directors and Midge is the owner of Precision Silk Screen which is responsible for many of the great awards given at shows in California (as well as being an accomplished western pleasure exhibitor). Feel free to contact CeCe and Midge (or any other board member) with any ideas or questions you have about PCQHA.
California was well represented at the AQHA convention in San Antonio at the beginning of March. Members attended various committees to consider rule changes, attended the AQHA sponsored seminar on cloning (most of the PCQHA members attending the seminar found it helpful in understanding some of the science behind cloning and the general consensus is that it is only a matter of time before AQHA starts registering cloned horses!) and attending the Awards banquet for the 2008 honor role horses. In a surprise announcement at the awards dinner, Judy Bonham was announced as winner of the AQHA Most Valuable Professional! For the first time in my memory Judy Bonham was (almost) speechless as she accepted the award. Judy - congratulations from everyone at PCQHA on your recognition by AQHA and thank you for your endless hours of devotion to AQHA, PCQHA, your clients and most importantly the youth of the Pacific Coast!
Everyone involved with PCQHA is aware that showing our great Quarter Horses is difficult in economic times like these. We sincerely appreciate everyone who continues to support PCQHA and PCQHA approved events and look forward to seeing everyone at the April shows in Woodland, Atascadero, Burbank and Del Mar. We all hope and pray that the signs that the current economic downturn is ending will turn out to mark the beginning of another great era for the Quarter Horse show industry in California.
Doug Brown, President PCQHA
